Southeast Asia is currently one of the most strategically exciting growth markets for Germany's small and medium-sized businesses. Yet for many decision-makers, the region remains something of a black box. Alongside cultural barriers, there is often a lack of knowledge about local demand and the structure of trade in these countries. As part of a business delegation organised by MIT Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, we therefore joined interested entrepreneurs from the region in visiting German and local companies in Singapore to discuss their experiences and examples of best practice.
It is fascinating to see how countries such as Singapore have developed their own approaches to digitalisation and sustainability and are already much further ahead than Germany. In the past, Singapore has systematically sought to identify the best economic and social concepts worldwide and adapt them for its own use. Setting up a company is relatively straightforward, and the country's stability gives businesses confidence in their planning. Singapore is also an ideal hub for launching business activities in the region.
This is also why DTO is establishing its first international branch with an office in Singapore in December. ‘With an office in Asia, we want to be even closer to our clients. Although we have been working in the region for years, projects have so far been managed from Germany. We also want to demonstrate how important Asia is to us as a strategic region and the enormous potential we see here for our clients,’ says Nils Tychewicz, Managing Director of DTO.
We would like to express our sincere thanks once again to Berry Sim (UVEX SAFETY SINGAPORE), Klaus Pühmeyer (Kärcher), Birgitta von Dresky (Luther), Dominique Herold (German Centre), Thomas Markert (Plasmatreat Asia Pacific), LIE SEK GUAN (PSA International), and Jan Lueder, Christoph Schimpke and Juergen Woehrmann (thyssenkrupp Singapore) for their excellent presentations and insights.
